2019 - two steps forward and one step back
- but it's happening
I hated school and my GCE 'O' Level results reflect that. I think I received one certificate with four subjects on it (Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and English Language. At the second attempt I received an 'O' Level in Geography but Chemistry eluded me. I believe I failed in Religious knowledge because of my Darwinite views. History was a non-starter.
I tried 'A' Levels but after 12 months was bored of school so I applied for and obtained a 'Student Apprenticeship' with the West Midlands Gas Board. I left home and went to Coventry Technical College where I successfully studied for an ONC in Engineering and the City and Guilds Certificate in Gas Fittng.
I still use my gas and plumbing skills today.
After a brief excursion to Salford University where I was unsuccessful in the first year of the course I successfully studied for a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with Fuels. I also recieved a Supplementary Certificate in Industrial Administration.
That was sufficient at the time to do the job and so I finished study, married, restored a house and enjoyed my hobbies, drank beer, etc.
Ten years later, not having studied to become a Chartered Engineer, I had the urge to study again. This was due in part to the fact that I could get the qualification via an Open University course and that my employer would sponsor the costs. All courses then started with a Foundation course so I chose the Technology course which seemed to satisfy my talents and the C.Eng requirements.
At the Summer School we had a lecture on the second level courses and none of the courses which I was interested in satisfied the C.Eng requirements so I chose to abandon the C.Eng idea and do something I wanted to do rather than what I had to do.
My continuing interest in Energy and the length of time I had been working in the Energy industry enabled me to become a Member of th Institute of Energy.
By this time I was able to use my learning in the marketing analysis work I carried out in Brasil and Egypt which, combined with my qualifications enabled me to become a Member of the Institute of Marketing and a Chartered Marketer.
So I finally arrived at Chartered status even if it was in a different Institute!
I am currently refreshing my knowlege and have. In 2012 I successfully completed a Diploma in Sustainable Development, a course originally from and published by OpenLearn.I am using a new methodology to study - Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online.
I also completed the Energy University Certification Course which leads to qualification of Professional Energy Manager. The PEM exam is part of the Energy Management Diploma Program provided by North Carolina State University in the United States.
This year I have studied the ALISON course Diploma in EU Public Procurement, an Introduction to HTML5 (for a change!) and Six Sigma in the Supply Chain. I am now a Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma and am aiming for the Green Belt. However currently I'm studying for a Diploma in Electronic Marketing.
2015 was the year that I failed to take any educational course. This was due to the fact that I was fully occupied with my good causes, working with EACO, spending 3 months in Vanuatu, starting EACO Friendly, running a house on my own and making new friends.
2017 saw a great deal of time pursuing, through the courts, several people who chose to abuse my trust in them. This opened my eyes to legal and court systems but was able to mount cases in both the High Court and Magistrate's Courts. I even managed to start a new consutlancy business!
2018 saaw my personal life change dramaatically and work in Uganda continued to blossom. Court cases remain ongoing and I hope to achieve successful outcomes this year.
Whatever next? Well, I have ambitions to develop my new relationships, I must visit my ventures in Uganda and my partners in Malawi. See you soon....
