||Arrived safely in UK. Despite concerns about us exiting
from SA due to the visa problem we passed through passport control with no
difficulties. The journey was made uncomfortable by an annoying rash on
the neck and I scratched my way to the doctors to get ointment and pills
(which worked thank ggodness)
||It appears we need a gas inspection at the house before
we can get a council inspection - round we go again
||Elmar and Marie came to lunch today. Fine time with some
||Finally reconfirmed flight with THY.
What a pain that
was. Booked appointment with doctor for body overhaul. Rash is still with
us. Think its gravitational dermititus or varicose ezma.
||Travelled to Paal again to try and resolve the visa
issue. 'You need to come 2 or 3 days before you go" was the answer
this time. When we said it was a 300k round trip they stamped the form and
said you'll be OK to leave. Time will tell.
||Louise and Andries came to dinner this evening - fine
||The weather for the last week has been terrible. Rain,
cold, cloud, long sleeves and trousers!!!! Still today is better with
clear blue skies and little wind. Nothing much happening at the moment.
All the tourists have gone after the holiday weeked with 2 Bank Holidays.
Walking is still going strong.
||Another excellent walk today from the sewage works (no
joke) to the Berg river opposite Laiplek. The tide was way out (no moon)
so we walked on the hard sand rather than shells and seaweed. 3 great
houses just off the beach in an isolated erven - all seem to be holiday
||Finally launched My Managers website on a co.uk domain.
Content looks quite good and now awaiting to be bombarded with enquiries.
Bad rash day.
||Had a good meeting with the Municipal Manager and his
Technical Services Director about the ongoing saga surounding the tank
emptying 'service' (see www.stinc.cu.cc)
. Think we got the right man this time. We agreed that if the sewers flood
again he (the MM) will serve time - doing community work. The rub is that
I've got to do it too!
||Had a good weekend. It was Grant's and Maggie's birthdays
('the grammar here is a bit open to question. Maybe I should write it was
the birthday of both Grant and Maggie'). George cooked lunch which was
good and their friend s were good company too. Today we walked in
Britannica Heights and finished the walk of in the St. Helena Bay Hotel
with a couple of beers.
||Well, the rash has returned, itched and gone away again,
so my previous certainty has gone away again.
||Spent the weekend with Missy, the neighbours cat. They
had abandoned her to go camping for the weekend so she (faced with a
cardboard box, water and cat treats) decided to move house. This is a
third level piss off as 1) On their request I carried the tent from
Portugal last year and we've never been camping. 2) They told all the
neigbours they were going but failed to mention either the fact that they
were going or the likely outcome.
||Well, I think I've finally shrugged off the rash on my
lower legs. After 3 years (on and off) of itching legs, ointments,
pustules, tablets, etc., etc. I've come to the conclusion that its a
terminal disease called Cellulitis caused by a type of bacteria entering
the skin by way of a cut (or abrasion). Now most people know that I live
in shorts and tee shirt so the cuts on the leg will come as no surprise
considering how clumsy I am. It is also prevelent in the elderly!
Treatment is by antibiotic Flucloxallin or Dicloxalin.
||Last years farce on the visa extension is well on the way
to being surpassed by this year's. We applied for the extension in good
time (24/1), had to chase up the reference numbers when they didn't
arrive, had to chase the extensions when they didn't arrive. One arrived
without the other and neither arrived before our current visas expired.
Went to DHA to collect and my extension was made out until 20/5, Pat's to
27/5 and we leave on the 29/5! So after 'some discussion' we have to go
back again to Paal (150km each way) to cllect a letter allowing us to
leave the country.
